Household Products For Mold Prevention

Is your house making you sick? Maybe! No one likes to think about it, but it could be making your illness worse. Don’t get me wrong.

We don’t like to think of our homes, as a culprit for our illness, but sometimes it just is. The good news is, there are products out there that can help clean your house of mold and keep your environment free from added toxins.

I’ve made a list of items that can help clean mold out of porous items such as your clothing, sheets, towels, etc. I’ve also made a list of cleaning products I use that free your house of harmful toxins, and keep the mold levels down.

Let’s get started!

FOR THE HOME

Bedding and Sheets

Most commercial bedding and sheets from manufacturers are made with fire retardants, pesticides, bleaches, and dyes. SAY WHAT? Yes, you read that correctly. Choose 100% organic/linen bedding and sheets. Here’s some I found that I really love. This goes the same for curtains.

Bed Sheets
These West Elm bed sheets fit all of the criteria, and they come in several colors. Price ranges from $29-$119.

Towels

Bath towels, hand towels, wash towels, can also all be made with harmful toxins including bleaches, dyes, and pesticides. Find 100% organic towels when your current ones get old and it’s time for some new ones!

Towels
I like these ones because they are GOTS (Global Organic Textiles Standard) certified.

Shower curtain

Who would think to change their shower curtain? Me. Vinyl shower curtains release more than 100 volatile organic compounds that can stay in your air for longer than a month. Vinyl shower curtains also contain pathalates, which are a big no no. Choose a 100% organic cotton/linen shower curtain rather than releasing unwanted toxins into your home.

Air Purifier

One of my favorite toxin-taming strategies for my home is using an air purifier. By getting an air filter for your home, you’re allowing your body to do less of the detoxing. Clean air is something you can control, so why not do it? All you have to do is plug it in! This air purifier will clean up to 600 sq. ft. in an hour. If your home is bigger than 600 sq. ft. then just move it around each day.

Air Purifier
Molekule $799.  They offer a 0% interest payment program for 12 months.

Yep this one! Adding this item to your laundry will be game changing! This is my favorite product to use for mold. It gets all the mold off your clothes that you have worn all day outside, going on hikes, sweating in, etc. I put this one where a fabric softener would normally go.

Safe for all materials designed to treat mold. I’ll spray this on my leather couches, wood dining room table, marble coffee table, glass, mirrors, etc.

Dishwasher Detergent

Don’t eat your food on dishes that were just cleaned in chemicals! That’s like putting chemicals right on your food and then back into your body. This is a great alternative to Dawn, or any of the other chemical detergents out there.
